This course provides hands-on instruction on how to set up QuickBooks as a system for small businesses. Students will learn about the types of information they need to track in their business and will become familiar with the most common tasks required, as well as the more advanced functions of the software. Students will learn how to create company files and deal with more advanced tasks for receivables, payables, inventory and payroll.
Upon completion of this course, students will be advanced QuickBooks users and will be fully prepared to write an Intuit QuickBooks Certified User Examination.
Intuit QuickBooks Certified User Examination
Successful completion of the Examination validates a student’s QuickBooks knowledge and makes them an Intuit QuickBooks Certified User (QBCU), which is the best way to communicate their skills and expertise with QuickBooks to potential employers. QuickBooks Certified User Examination includes 50 simulation-based questions. A candidate is given up to 50 minutes to complete the exam.
The Intuit QuickBooks Certified User Examination is not included in the cost of the course and is not mandatory.
John Kurian is a designated Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and a Certified General Accountant (CGA) with over 20 years experience in Corporate Accounting, Finance and Education fields. He is passionate about teaching and e-learning, and draws on his practical experience when teaching Accounting and Business courses at Ashton College. He is very careful about choosing his online resources and tools as he believes good hands-on training and guidance is half the battle in developing a successful skill set, competency and business operation.
John has taught accounting and business courses in six provinces in China and has developed courses and taught/facilitated in professional accounting degree programs, MBA and graduate programs in Canada.
Danielle Roy is a Chartered Professional Accountant with more than ten years of corporate accounting and business development experience. Danielle holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Marketing Diploma both of which she has applied to the start-up and operation of two successful business ventures. Danielle prepares her students for diverse, real life, business cases through the use of hands-on, practical activities in an interactive class setting.
Allyson Dueck is a Certified Professional Bookkeeper and holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta. She is a contract bookkeeper with clients in many industries including health care, web design, charity and construction. Allyson is passionate about sharing her love of numbers, systems and bookkeeping with Ashton students and empowering them to achieve their own goals.
Karbo Kam obtained her Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Sauder School Business with a minor in English Language. She is a Chartered Accountant and completed her articling requirements with KPMG in Vancouver with a focus on financial institutions.
Karbo has both industry and public practice experience and is excited to contribute to the development of students in the Bookkeeping and Business programs.
Shabira Rajan is a senior financial executive who has over twenty years of work experience, in both the private and public sectors. Shabira is a Certified General Accountant, holds a Master of Business Administration and an Advanced Specialty Certificate in Forensic Science Technology, Forensic and Investigative Accounting Option. Currently, she provides financial management services to various clients. Shabira also facilitates courses for CGA BC.
She is excited to share her financial management and computerized accounting knowledge with the students at Ashton College.
Dong Shim is a Canadian Chartered Accountant (CA) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the State of Illinois. Dong graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and has a wealth of experience working with both public and private companies in areas of accounting, tax and assurance.
Dong worked as an audit partner at a public accounting firm until starting his own firm in 2013.
Luz Abad comes to Ashton College with a wealth of experience in the accounting and bookkeeping fields as well as in teaching. Luz holds a Bachelor of Accounting, a BC Provincial Instructor Diploma, and a licence in Life, Accident & Sickness Insurance. Luz has been in the finance industry for more than fifteen years and has held positions with Proctor and Gamble, Vancity, the Burnaby School District, Embers, and Vancouver Community College.
Nicholas Koo is a Chartered Accountant and graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He articled with an accounting firm in Vancouver providing a variety of accounting services for private and public companies in areas such as financial reporting, assurance, taxation and bookkeeping.
