Hear what he has to say about his intriguing and informative learning experience in the program.

Interview

Can you tell us a little about your career and educational background and how you ended up at Ashton College?

I did my Masters in Commerce and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Financial Management from New Delhi, India before moving to Canada in 2008. Although having worked in the accounting field for many years, I realized that I had to upgrade in order to obtain a suitable accounting job in Canada. Therefore, I chose the accounting program offered by Ashton College as it was also recognized by the erstwhile Certified General Accountants Association of BC. Presently, I am working as an auditor for the Federal Government.

Did you have any memorable instructors?

All the instructors were well versed in their area of expertise and their teaching style made the accounting program intriguing.

What challenged you in the accounting program?

I remember business communications was one subject where we all had to do a project on a recommendation leading to a simplification of an internal process that was implemented by our employer. This was a challenging and interesting assignment.

Was there anything that surprised you about the learning experience?

The learning experience at Ashton College was simply awesome! I remember that we had a few public speaking classes outdoors which were fun while at the same time quite informative.

How was your career progressed since your time with Ashton College?

After completing the accounting program at Ashton College in 2010, I went on to complete my CPA CGA in 2015. It has been quite an interesting journey so far.

Did taking the accounting program help to improve your confidence in the workforce?

Yes, definitely. The program was a huge factor in getting acceptance, recognition and ultimately job offers from employers.

What are you reading right now? Any favourite books or magazines?

I do read the CPABC Infocus bimonthly magazine on an ongoing basis as it keeps me up to date with the latest developments in the field of accounting.

What advice would you offer to someone who is considering taking our accounting program?

I have no hesitation in recommending Ashton College's accounting program to prospective students looking to enter the field of accounting as I believe this program dishes out all the theoretical as well as the practical knowledge one needs and is taught by instructors who are quite drilled in their area of instruction.
