Shameela has completed her Masters of Social Work from the University of Windsor and has her Level 1 Life Coaching Certificate from the YWCA. Shameela is currently a social worker with the Fraser Health Authority and has worked in clinics dedicated to supporting refugees, HIV+ and survivors of COVID-19. Her professional interests include learning about trauma-informed, arts-based approaches to supporting clients, with a focus on writing as a form of healing.
When supporting clients, she works from an anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, anti-racist perspective, recognizing and acknowledging that systemic oppressions exist to further marginalize communities. When Shameela is not working or teaching, she enjoys reading YA fiction by BIPOC authors.
