Student Success Centre Coordinator

Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Registrar, the Student Success Centre Coordinator supports the facilitation of experiential learning within the diploma programs offered by Ashton College. Your role will be to support students and faculty with the implementation of orientation, all practicum placements and internship opportunities, locally and globally.

The Coordinator’s responsibilities include the following tasks:

  • Develop community partnerships with the goal of identifying placement opportunities for students in response to student, faculty, discipline, program, and community goals and needs.
  • Ensure appropriate agreements (Affiliation Agreements, Memoranda of Understanding) are in place with all partners.
  • Represent the School with any live, phone calls or emails to prospective practicum hosts.
  • Ensure field education meets PTIB accreditation standards.
  • Advocate on behalf of Ashton College locally, provincially, and nationally
  • Attend meetings with the focus on creating new placements.
  • Serve as the main contact person for students regarding practicum; Evaluate and complete ongoing evaluations of potential practicum placements – visit the site, liaise with potential supervisors, look at safety and risk issues, evaluate what students will be doing, and ensure this aligns with students’ goals and PTIB standards.
  • Prepare students for placement by organizing pre-placement orientation and delivery in conjunction with training and education of faculty and community partners.
  • Maintain a practicum database for the programs.
  • Develop system and a student process guide for field placements.
  • Assess applicants’ experience, professional suitability, and readiness to ensure students are qualified and successful in their placement.
  • Setup orientation meetings to explain practicum processes and outline the roles and responsibilities for practicum students.
  • Ensure criminal record checks are initiated in conjunction with necessary programs.
  • Respond to any issues that may arise during the practicum placement process.
  • Maintain an inventory of employers and job postings to assist graduating students and Ashton’s alumni.
  • Ensure that employer contacts and job postings are always up to date.
  • Facilitate career workshops live online to both engage and assist Ashton’s students and alumni alike.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Diploma (or higher) in a related field and/or an equivalent amount of prior related work experience.
  • Additional training in counselling, career preparation, and leadership is required since it directly relates to the role.
  • Must be a confident communicator and presenter: Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and oral communication skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively, exhibiting respect for all colleagues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service and community engagement.
  • Proven success in developing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Practicum placement experience or experience supervising practicum students in the workplace would be an asset.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, including successful experience in project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, resolve conflict, meet deadlines, stay current, and adapt to change.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Highly resourceful with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and be creative.
  • Strong qualitative research skills
  • Relevant experience in office management, organizing, and managing records.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional (Word, Excel, and Outlook) is required
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution strategies and approaches would be an asset.
