Growing up in Burnaby, Surrey, and now living the cold/wet seasons the Aldergrove B.C. area, Kevin Renso collected a general business/communication/tech bachelor’s degree, collecting credits at both Kwantlen Polytechnic University and University College of the Fraser Valley.  As a student, Kevin would take evening classes in “whatever his corporate tuition reimbursement program would pay for” – business, computer science, or communications related (collecting credits), and after graduation from UCFV – completed a Master’s degree in educational technology at the University of Calgary, 2011.

After graduate school, Kevin came back to UFV and started teaching lower level classes in computer science, education and career planning, and business.  Today, Kevin teaches at UFV and Ashton College, mostly computer science/business courses while also working in the corporate world traveling around North America “collecting an early retirement”.  Kevin loves teaching – but hates working, and plans to semi-retire sometime soon, but seems to find reasons and projects for working longer than he would have liked.

We wouldn’t call Kevin an American, but he’s as “red, white, and blue-blooded” as a Canadian-American could get with an ocean front vacation home on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State where his beautiful wife, twin daughters, son, and purebred Silver-Tip Persian show-cat enjoy the refreshing ocean air – until Kevin is forced to return to Canada to teach!  Kevin spends a lot of time (and money) supporting domestic animals in Western Canada, and his cat has become an unofficial mascot for all his course offerings.

    Red Seal Trades

Early in my career I apprenticed as an Industrial Electrician in the South Western Ontario Automotive Industry installing, wiring and programming 5-axis Robots and gained

over 25 years of experience as a general purpose Systems Integrator here in the Lower Mainland.

I’ve designed and installed and worked with all kinds of machinery over the years; anything from mining & forestry equipment to roller coaster control systems and BC Hydro penstock intake gate controls.

I’ve met some of the best and brightest in different industries and have learned so much and at this time in my career I feel the need to contribute some of this knowledge back into society by way of teaching others.

Personally, I always feel I’ve learned as much (and likely more) from my students than they have from me and I’m a firm believer that all students at this level are also teachers by asking and answering questions from their peers and classmates. I need not say there is no shame in not knowing the answer at hand; the key is to know how to find the answer and in the industrial electrical trade there is no end questions, big or small, obvious or not. It’s a lifelong learning based industry!
