What You Need to Know About UX Design

With the advancement of technology, the term user experience or UX has become considerably more popular. People instinctively think about UX design when they think of website and app interfaces. However, few really understand what UX is, and some even hold misunderstandings about the field. 

So, what is UX design? 

According to Reed Jones, Senior User Experience Researcher at Autodesk, UX design is about “delighting users by anticipating their needs and giving them something they didn’t think to ask for.” The term, first coined by Don Norman, also refers to how a user interacts with a company's service and goods. Overall, UX design is concerned with the user's experience when engaging with a website or app. End-users will have a better overall experience if the interface and design are more tailored and intuitive – this is achieved via the use of well-considered and professional user-centred designs that emphasize utility and purpose. A solid UX design also delivers experiences that people do not think they need yet are a nice surprise to have. Now that I've covered the fundamentals of UX design, let me share some facts about the subject that you probably didn't know. 

User Experience ≠ User Interface 

While UX is concerned with end-user satisfaction through interactions with a product, UI is interested with every part that a user interacts with in order to use a specific product, and is engrossed with the overall feel of a design. Simply put, UI refers to the components that allow users to interact with the product, whereas UX refers to the whole experience that the person utilizing the product or service has. Some examples of UI include screens, keyboards, the click wheel on your old iPod, and even the Alexa on your living room table. While some individuals use UX and UI interchangeably, the two concepts are truly co-dependent. UX exists because of UI, and UI cannot persist indefinitely without UX. 

UX influences digital marketing 

Digital marketers must keep the UX component in mind while creating banners, email campaigns, brochures, and practically any digital marketing campaign. It is also crucial that designs be created with human-computer interaction or HCI in mind. Consumers will only take their time to read if ads are visually appealing. Informative marketing material will not appeal to people without decent UX at a minimum. Overall, UX design is a sector that is in high demand in the job market. Because of the advancement of technology and increased access to the internet, almost every area of a business is now dependent to UX. With that in mind, completing a UX design course is advantageous for individuals who are interested in generating inventive solutions to technological challenges, communicating with target audiences, and establishing a successful marketing plan.
