Lorne Waldman
Lorne has been practicing exclusively in the area of immigration and refugee law since 1979, the year he opened his own law practice. He has been regularly recognized for his contributions to the legal profession. In August 2007, he was awarded the Louis St Laurent award by the CBA. In 2015, he was given a Lifetime Achievement award from the Canadian Bar Association National Immigration Law Section. Lorne was named one of the top 25 most influential lawyers in Canada by Canadian Lawyer magazine in 2010, 2015 and 2016. Most recently, in 2017, he was honoured by being named to the Order of Canada.
Lorne received his Bachelor of Laws Degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1977. In 2000, he received his Masters of Laws Degree from the University of Toronto. His thesis was entitled International Human Rights Law and Limitations on a State’s Right to Expel Non-Citizens. He has written extensively in the area of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and its impact on the rights of immigrants and refugees. He has also written many articles on human rights issues as op-ed submissions to newspapers.
