Renugadevi Eswaran is a recent graduate of our Mental Health and Addictions Support Worker Certificate Program. She is an immigrant from India with nearly two decades of experience in Psychiatric Nursing. Renugadevi chose Ashton College to help her transition into the Canadian workforce. Throughout her journey, she embraced our comprehensive curriculum. Now, as a proud graduate, Renugadevi is making a difference in the lives of others as a Mental Health and Addictions Support Worker. Here is her success story…

My name is Renugadevi Eswaran. I come from India with a background in Psychiatric Nursing. I was wondering how to begin my career here when I found Ashton College’s program.

Why did I choose Ashton?

Ashton College is one of the best colleges out there in Canada.  They are a pioneer in the field of personal education. They are accredited with various institutions including the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation. So, I believed that it was best to go with Ashton.

Taking a course with Ashton is an interesting learning experience. I gained lots of personal experience. They offer industry experts as the instructors. This program offers subject variety. The curriculum is related to various subjects such as substance abuse disorders.

My Practicum

Throughout my practicum experience I had the privilege to observe, participate, and lead many aspects of addiction related interventions. I learned how nurses and other team members were implementing interventions for different types of substance abuse cases.

What are the career opportunities?

I can say that there are plenty of career opportunities related to substance abuse and addiction disorders.  There were courses from key disciplines, such as counselling, child development and family studies, psychology and sociology. We also studied diversity, aging, disabilities and wellness. You’ll want to start your career immediately and this program will help you prepare to be ready to enter any field within mental health and addictions support.

Any final thoughts?

My experience with Ashton was outstanding. There is no difference between face-to-face and online classes. It is the instructors that makes the difference not the classroom. My instructors were really resourceful and dedicated. I would like to say one more thing about my clinic coordinator. She was really helpful in coordinating us, and she was excellent in providing instant feedback while she helped guide us. Overall, I had a fantastic time with Ashton College, and I highly recommend it to students.
