This course changed my understanding of recreation in a better way. I want to say thank you to our instructor Johnathan, he did an amazing job teaching us all the topics of recreation therapy and he gave us so much knowledge. I would recommend this course to everybody.
Advanced Therapeutic Recreation Course Overview
Our advanced course is a more intensive course integrating all aspects of therapeutic recreation program delivery and the role of the Recreational Therapist in the implementation of program delivery. The course will focus on theory and practice in the various areas of core recreation programming taking into account the role of the Recreational Therapist.
Topics Covered/Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
Utilize activity analysis and apply to program planning to work with people who may benefit form assistance to improve their quality of life.
Evaluate and apply necessary adaptations and interventions to recreation and leisure opportunities to allow for full participation by individuals.

Implement program plans tailored to the clients needs and abilities.

Johnathan Pathmanathan is a recreation therapist with a Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Seneca College. Utilizing a person-centred and constructivist approach to teaching, he places an emphasis on ensuring that the classroom is a diverse and culturally supportive environment for his students to learn. In his spare time, Johnathan enjoys going out for hikes, exercising and finding the best places to eat in the city.
Who Will Benefit From The Course
This course provides additional and supplemental training for recreational therapists, kinesiologists, care aides, and foreign-trained health care professionals.

Live Online Students
Ashton College uses web conferencing tools for conducting online classes and online learning management systems for managing resources, assignments, and grades. These tools help instructors and students connect live online as well as asynchronously. The basic requirements for online learning include a computer, webcam, speakers, and a microphone or a headset and headphones, along with a reliable internet connection. Though online learning can be pursued using smartphones and tablets, the use of laptops or desktop computers is encouraged for an enhanced learning experience.
This course does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training. As such, it was not reviewed.
