Overview

This course will assist teachers who use Moodle in how to add resources and activities to Moodle for their students to complete. The course will also show how to build a course in Moodle from scratch and identify common errors made when using Moodle as a teaching tool.

Upon completion of this course, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Understand the fundamentals of the Moodle Learning Management System.
  2. Build a course in Moodle from scratch.
  3. Add activities, resources and assessments for students.
  4. Overcome common errors made by users of Moodle.

Hassan Khaymabashi

Hassan KhaymabashiWith over 35 years of teaching experience, teaching is not just a job for Hassan. It is his favourite hobby. He enjoys teaching by creating an enjoyable learning environment. He has taught all levels of math, including calculus and statistics, and finance, including financial management, financial and management accounting. Hassan holds a double major bachelor’s degree in Math and Software Engineering, a master’s degree in Applied Math and a master’s of education degree in Instructional Technologies. He also holds a certificate in Online Training and Train the Trainers, BC Instructor diploma, Certificate in Software Systems Development, Certificate in Financial Accounting and a Certificate in Hotel Real Estate Management. He still has more learning plans. Hassan’s passion for both teaching and technology has motivated him to discover all the details of Learning Management Systems. He is an expert in using Moodle for online instruction.

 

 

 

Dr. Elias Aleman

Dr. Elias Aleman is a data analytics consultant and a management scholar with over ten years of experience in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. He is an engineer by training and holds a Ph.D. in Technology Management / Business Administration and a Master’s in Management from Stevens Institute of Technology. His academic research involves strategic decision-making by CEOs and top executives. He has presented his work in notable venues such as the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society.

Currently, Dr. Aleman is the head of analytics at the Canadian Auto Accessories Merch Company. He is also an adjunct instructor for Ashton College, Dawson College, Niagara College, the Toronto School of Management, the Stevens Institute of Technology and Kean University. His teaching expertise includes management, business administration, artificial intelligence, data analytics and visualization.

Previously, Dr. Aleman managed the finance department at Calvet & Associates and consulted for the city of New York to develop an investment tool for restaurant entrepreneurs. He was also a researcher at the Hanlon Lab for Data Analytics and Visualization at Stevens Institute of Technology, where he worked in several data science projects applying machine learning and other advanced analytics techniques.

    • Students must devote at least 3 hours per week to attend live webinars
    • Webinars will be held on Wednesdays from 4:00 to 7:00 pm PST
    • Outside of live instructional periods, students will be expected to take part in various independent and/or group activities

Technical Requirements

Live Online Students

Ashton College uses web conferencing tools for conducting online classes and online learning management systems for managing resources, assignments, and grades. These tools help instructors and students connect live online as well as asynchronously. The basic requirements for online learning include a computer, webcam, speakers, and a microphone or a headset and headphones, along with a reliable internet connection. Though online learning can be pursued using smartphones and tablets, the use of laptops or desktop computers is encouraged for an enhanced learning experience.

 

This course does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such, it was not reviewed.
