This course will introduce paralegals to Canadian Immigration Law principles. Commencing with an overview of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (“IRPA”), the course also examines the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the rules and procedures during hearings under the IRPA. This course will assist students in gaining both a theoretical and practical understanding of the basic elements of immigration law. Upon completion of this course, students will have obtained an excellent knowledge in immigration law practice and will be able to advance their careers in various phases of the immigration law process.

Parveen completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and she attended law school at the University of Windsor in Ontario. Parveen practiced at several prominent Toronto law firms after being admitted to the Ontario Bar. Soon after that, she founded her practice. Parveen works as an advisor at UBC, guiding students through legal challenges and coordinating career development programs. Parveen is a leader in her industry as an elected executive member with different sections of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA). In her free time, she volunteers as a career mentor for newcomers to Canada and with other charitable causes.

Ashton College uses web conferencing tools to help instructors and students connect and collaborate live online. For the online classes, students need to have a fully functional computer system with a webcam, speakers and microphone or headset and headphones, along with a reliable high-speed internet connection. Though the classes can be accessed using smartphones and tablets, we recommend using a laptop or desktop computer for a better learning experience.
