The Mindfulness course provides a broad overview of the fundamental concepts, principles and practices of mindfulness. Mindfulness offers a pathway for living with more freedom, authenticity and ease. Mindfulness teaches us how to become aware of our moment-by-moment thoughts, feelings and sensations without judging those thoughts and feelings as good or bad. The course instructors are experts in the field with years of practical experience. Course participants will not only be introduced to the concept of Mindfulness but will also have the opportunity of learning to apply the practices to their daily lives.

Gina Miller is a Certified Meditation Teacher, Artist and Group Facilitator working in the field of Mindfulness. For the last twenty years, Gina has worked in the helping field in a variety of environments using mindfulness, art therapy, individual coaching and psycho-education. Having practiced meditation for decades, Gina feels called to share her experience of Mindfulness with others with the intention that they may reap the mental, emotional and physical benefits of mindful living. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University, her Mindfulness Instructor Certification from The Lab of Meditation, and certification in Compassionate Inquiry with Gabor Maté. Gina has several other Mindfulness accreditations including a specialization in Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention from the University of California, San Diego and certificates from Mindful Schools- Kids/Adolescent Curriculum for Educators. Gina guides a variety of Mindfulness programs and workshops for institutions such as The Recovery Centre at UBC, The Westcoast Child Care Resource Centre and Vital Body Clinic. Gina also continues in private practice teaching Mindfulness. Gina is enthusiastic about helping others to see and use their own strengths to live with clarity and purpose.
Michelle Ikem comes to Ashton College with an extensive background in Life, Business and Career Coaching. She is a transformational and self-actualization coach based in Calgary, Alberta. Her goal is to teach her clients how to turn inward, aligning the mind, body and spirit. She uses various modalities such as coaching, reiki, mindfulness, positive affirmations and breathwork. She helps her clients create awareness while taking actionable steps toward manifesting a life of value, meaning, and authenticity.
Michelle holds a Bachelor of Psychology, certificate in life coaching and a certificate in reiki levels one and two. She desires to increase her knowledge through education and life experiences. She is currently completing her Mindfulness Teacher Certificate and is both a practitioner and advocate of trauma-informed mindfulness. Michelle has spent over ten years working in the social services sector in addictions, pan-disability, autism, immigrant services, facilitation and career counselling. She coaches clients all over Canada and has added resume and job application support to help students, immigrants and individuals to gain meaningful employment.
Registration fee for this course is $265.
Live Online Students
Ashton College uses web conferencing tools for conducting online classes and online learning management systems for managing resources, assignments, and grades. These tools help instructors and students connect live online as well as asynchronously. The basic requirements for online learning include a computer, webcam, speakers, and a microphone or a headset and headphones, along with a reliable internet connection. Though online learning can be pursued using smartphones and tablets, the use of laptops or desktop computers is encouraged for an enhanced learning experience.
This course does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such, it was not reviewed.
