Program Overview

The Diploma in Human Resources Management (DHRM) program explores how human resources (HR) professionals deal with the management of an organization’s workforce: from the most junior member of staff to the chief executive.

The focus of the Human Resources Management Diploma program is on HR skills that build effective relationships at all levels of the organization. During the program, students will explore several important topics, including workforce planning, human resources development, compensation and benefits, labour relations and occupational health and safety.

The program serves as a solid foundation for managing HR challenges of today’s demanding work environments and allows students with or without a Bachelor’s degree to pursue the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) designation without taking the National Knowledge Examination (NKE).

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Evaluate core processes in human resources practices associated with strategic planning, acquisition and development, utilization of human resources, establishment and improvement of labour and employee relations, and compensation and administration issues
  2. Promote the best human resources practices in an organization
  3. Contribute to the monitoring of health and safety in the workplace
  4. Analyze diverse forms of adaptation to a changing environment and implement change in a logical and planned way
  5. Define implementation strategies for job redesign and work re-organization
  6. Analyze the application of industrial relations legislations and their effects on employee relations and working conditions
  7. Evaluate the application of key practical approaches to contemporary human resource problems in an organizational context
  8. Encourage an approach to the practice of human resource management that is proactive and thoughtful rather than reactive
  9. Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders both verbally and in writing

Chartered Professionals in Human Resources

CPHR

Ashton’s Human Resources Management Diploma program is accredited for the Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) designation  and allows students with or without a bachelor’s degree to pursue the CPHR designation without taking the National Knowledge Examination (NKE).

Students can also take this program to prepare for the NKE, an exam that assesses HR knowledge and skills. After passing the examination, students can become candidates for CPHR certification. Full details on the CPHR path are available from the relevant provincial HR associations.

The program follows the competency framework as laid out by Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHR) Canada, featuring both technical and general skills, abilities and knowledge necessary to effectively practise human resources in Canada. These competencies are required to earn the CPHR designation.

The Diploma in Human Resources Management is aimed at providing future HR professionals with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to recruit and develop talent, craft effective policies, and manage organizational change. The program is designed for emerging HR practitioners, individuals who hold leadership or management positions, or those preparing to transition into leadership, management, or human resources roles.

Applicants must meet the criteria as set out in our Admissions Policy.

NOTE: Applicants who are unable to access our existing English Language Proficiency testing options due to test centre closures, we have made special temporary arrangements to accept the result of the Duolingo Online Test. Please refer to this memorandum for further information.

    • Webinars will be held Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm PST
    • Seminars and laboratory times are decided at the start of the cohort

Part Time:

  • March 02, 2021 – December 02, 2021
    • Webinars will be held Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6:30 pm to 08:00 pm PST
    • Seminars and laboratory times are decided at the start of the cohort

Fee

Tuition fees for this program are due and payable 2 weeks prior to the cohort start date. Students with guaranteed funding arrangements will be exempt from this requirement provided that they produce documents before the cohort start date.

All formats of the program are eligible for Canada Student Loans, other forms of government funding, and bank financing. However students are responsible for making their own funding arrangements and are advised to contact the relevant funder well in advance of the start date to make an application.

Application and tuition fees for this program are as follows:

  • Application fee: $200 (Domestic Students) or $300 (International Students)
  • Tuition fee (Domestic): $4,200
  • Tuition fee (International): $5,460

Note: Tuition fees do not include the cost of required textbooks.

Technical Requirements

Live Online Students

Ashton College uses Adobe Connect and Schoology to help instructors and students connect and collaborate online. Students should have regular access to a computer, laptop or smartphone to access the class materials.

To be able to participate in webinars, students would need a webcam and headset, or a microphone and headphones, along with a high-speed internet connection. Please run a test to ensure whether your device can run Adobe Connect. You may be required to install the Adobe Connect add-in. If that’s the case, you will receive instructions to do so when you access a meeting for the first time. It is mandatory to run a Diagnostic Test to join an Adobe Connect meeting on a computer. The Diagnostic Test ensures that your computer and network connections are verified.

Adobe Connect mobile app is only available on Android devices and iOS. Recorded sessions are not accessible via the mobile device app, so students will need to use a desktop/laptop to view the recorded sessions.

This course does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such, it was not reviewed.
