Nicolaos Athanassiou

Nicolaos has been involved in the home inspection industry for the past decade. Both as an instructor at vocational schools and as a building inspector for residential and municipal buildings. He has also been a licensed contractor and indoor environmental practitioner in Laval, Quebec. Nicolaos has a specialized BA in Human Environment, a degree that focuses on how geography influences human behaviour and examines the impact of human activity on the environment. This gives him a unique view of construction as he looks at it through a lens of providing creative solutions towards climate change, biodiversity loss, natural resource management and sustainability.

 

Mark Heartt

Mark Heartt is a Red Seal Carpenter and entrepreneur that has owned and operated a successful construction company for more than 16 years. He has spent the last 16 years in post-secondary coming up through the ranks, starting as an instructor of carpentry and moving up to a Program Chair, Associate Dean and then the Dean of Trades for two post-secondary institutions. Mark also currently holds a Diploma in Adult Education as well as many certificates in leadership.

Outside of teaching, Mark enjoys curling, riding quads, and woodworking. He’s also a coach for Special Olympics curling.

 

Andrew Smith

Andrew Smith, Ashton College InstructorAs an online instructor, Andrew Smith utilizes his comprehensive industry expertise and a myriad of engaging instruction techniques to empower students with the knowledge and skillsets required to thrive in the field of carpentry. He works closely with students to mentor and advise them regarding continued professional development and potential career options. Professionally, he is a strategically focused leadership professional with a track record of delivering superior results leading construction projects. His training and professional development includes studying the Four Levels of Carpentry Training and Red Seal Certification at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and becoming a Certified Associate in Project Management.

 

Toscani, Ray

Andrew Smith, Ashton College Instructor

Ray Toscani has lived in the Lower Mainland since 1992.  He graduated with an architectural degree from the University of Manitoba (1986) and a Masters of Urban Planning (1991), subsequently working for Canada Mortgage and Housing (CMHC) for 10 years, in Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver.  Ray acquired further training and became Certified in Real Estate Finance (CRF), a Certified Mold Inspector, an air quality sampler as well as an EcoEnergy assessor administering the EcoEnergy and LiveSmart BC programs.

Ray previously owned a HouseMaster home inspection franchise in the Lower Mainland, and later opened his own firm, 1st Choice Inspection Services Ltd. He is an Accredited Home Inspector (AHI) with the Home Inspection Association of BC (HIABC) and licensed in British Columbia with the Consumer Protection Branch.

 

Toba Bankole

Toba is a versatile Project Management Professional with a rich background in project
management, quality assurance, and home inspection. With a Master of Science in Wood Products Engineering from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, Toba brings a unique blend of academic knowledge and practical expertise to his endeavors.
His extensive career spans roles such as Onsite and Offsite Construction Quality Control Inspector, Manufactured Homes Quality Assurance Inspector, and Lecturer in Wood Technology, providing him with invaluable experience in the construction and housing industry. Toba is a member of esteemed professional associations such as the North American Association of Home Inspectors (NAAHI) and the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), demonstrating his dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in the home inspection industry. His certification in Advanced Home Inspection from the Professional Home Inspection Institute (PHII) further solidifies his commitment to excellence and continuous learning in the field. Beyond his professional endeavors, Toba actively contributes to community development and advocacy efforts through volunteer work with various organizations globally. He is eager to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with students and professionals alike as an instructor at Ashton College, empowering them to excel in the dynamic field of home inspections.
