AWS Cloud Practitioner: Overview

Ashton College’s AWS Academy Cloud Foundations course is intended for students who seek an overall understanding of cloud computing concepts, independent of specific technical roles. It provides a detailed overview of cloud concepts, AWS core services, security, architecture, pricing, and support. This course prepares students for AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification.

Prerequisites

This is an entry-level course, but students should possess:

  • General IT technical knowledge
  • General IT business knowledge

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Define the AWS Cloud
  • Explain the AWS pricing philosophy
  • Identify the global infrastructure components of AWS
  • Describe the security and compliance measures of the AWS Cloud, including AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM)
  • Create a virtual private cloud (VPC) by using Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC)
  • Demonstrate when to use Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), AWS Lambda, and AWS Elastic Beanstalk
  • Differentiate between Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS), Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS), and Amazon Simple Storage Service Glacier (Amazon S3 Glacier)
  • Demonstrate when to use AWS database services, including Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Redshift, and Amazon Aurora
  • Explain the architectural principles of the AWS Cloud
  • Explore key concepts related to Elastic Load Balancing, Amazon CloudWatch, and Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling

Richard SpencerRichard Spencer has worn many hats during his time in the IT industry over the last 15 years. Starting his career in the telecommunications field, Richard is now a full-time information technology instructor. Richard has successfully attained his CCNA certification, CCNA “Train the Trainer” certification, and three certifications from Amazon Web Services: Solutions Architect Associate, Sysops Administrator, and DevOps associate. His professional expertise and interest align with all things AWS and networking.

 

 

Roman Mirakhmedov

Roman

Roman Mirakhmedov holds a Master’s in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Lomonosov Moscow State University and is a Ph. D. candidate in Artificial Intelligence. He has worked in technology for over 20 years and loves building next-generation cloud-native solutions to help his clients create maximum value and secure sustainable competitive advantage. Roman is an AWS Academy Accredited Educator for Cloud Foundations, Cloud Architecture, SysOps, DevOps and Machine Learning, and one of the very few people to hold all AWS certifications. He teaches cloud, machine learning, artificial intelligence, software development and applied mathematics. He is also currently a Senior Director, Cloud Consulting with Prodapt Solutions. He has authored and co-authored several papers on next-generation AI and regularly conducts research in collective intelligence.

Technical Requirements

Live Online Students

Ashton College uses web conferencing tools for conducting online classes and online learning management systems for managing resources, assignments, and grades. These tools help instructors and students connect live online as well as asynchronously. The basic requirements for online learning include a computer, webcam, speakers, and a microphone or a headset and headphones, along with a reliable internet connection. Though online learning can be pursued using smartphones and tablets, the use of laptops or desktop computers is encouraged for an enhanced learning experience.

 

This course does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training. As such, it was not reviewed.
