Michael Lockley: “I want to thank Ashton for having the course, especially for those of us in the isolated North”

Published On: June 4, 2021

Get to know our alumni! From a career as a professional opera singer to going to culinary school in Montreal after he retired, Cook Red Seal Prep Course alumnus Michael Lockley has quite a story! Watch the exclusive interview as he talks about life in Iqaluit, working as a chef in fine dining restaurants, to finding fulfillment working in soup kitchens and daycare centres up North.

In His Own Words

“The classes were at 9 p.m. for me, I am up at 5 o'clock in the morning and in the kitchen at 6.  It made for a long day.  I was worried it was going to be hard for me to focus, but it really wasn’t and a lot of it had to do with the instructor being well organized. And actually, I really was invigorated by it all. And how easy it was to learn online. I am a big believer in it, especially in the North where we are so isolated.”
