Certificate in IRB-IAD Representation Overview
The Certificate in IRB-IAD Representation course provides professionals with the essential knowledge and skills required to represent clients effectively before the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB). Participants will gain a thorough understanding of IAD regulations, procedural rules, and strategies to achieve successful outcomes in appeal cases.
NOTE: Completion of this course does not replace the CICC Specialization Course or grant a licence to practice before the IRB.
Topics and Learning Objectives
IRB-IAD Rules and Regulations
Establishing Grounds of Appeal-IRB-IAD
- Identify valid grounds of appeal under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).
- Analyze decisions to formulate effective appeal strategies.
Evidence and Advocacy Strategies
- Understand the rules of evidence applicable to IAD appeals.
- Develop strategies for presenting evidence convincingly.
Witness Preparation
- Learn how to select and prepare witnesses for appeals.
- Apply best practices for eliciting strong and credible testimony.
IRB-IAD Hearing Preparation
- Master the crafting of persuasive opening and closing statements.
- Structure a compelling case presentation for IAD hearings.
Admission Requirements
Admissions requirements:
- Canadian Lawyers in good standing with their Provincial or Territorial Law Society or a Notary who is a member in good standing of the Chambre des notaires du Quebec.
- Any other member in good standing of a law society of a province or territory or the Chambre des notaires du Quebec, including a Paralegal.
- Regulated Immigration and Citizenship Consultants licensed by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants.
- Employees, Agents, or Staff of the aforementioned authorized immigration practitioners.
- Members, Staff, and Employees of International Organizations, Embassies, Federal, Provincial, Municipal, Community, and Other Related Organizations that directly deal with foreign nationals on immigration, refugee, and citizenship-related matters.
Credential
Upon completion of the course requirements, a Statement of Completion will be issued.

The registration fee for this course is $600.
