This session will introduce participants to the concept of change management and when it is required within an organization.
Students will learn how to prepare employees for the change, methods of communication and implementation and how to reduce resistance to the change. We will also identify how to measure the impact of change on employees and organizations and we will discuss strategies to generate buy-in towards the change including through the presence of a change agent.

SPEAKER: Elizabeth Keurvorst
Elizabeth’s mandate is to bring out the best in people, organizations and their communities. She holds a Master’s Degree in Intercultural Communications from Royal Roads University along with being a Registered Provincial Instructor, a coach and a change and project management professional.
Previous assignments have found Elizabeth working with large organizations, governments and not-for-profits. Her work has ranged from facilitating large group process, implementing new systems, re-branding a city in Canada, supporting health and gender projects in rural Africa, setting up a new community engagement project in Sri Lanka, and facilitating a large scale human resources change for BC’s largest co-operative financial institution.
She is currently focusing on coaching entrepreneurs and managers to leverage talent and help them move strategically to the next level. She has spoken at national and international conferences and teaches project, change and communication skills.
Su-Yan Gay is a human resources (HR) professional who brings over fifteen years of HR experience to Ashton College. For over ten years, Su-Yan worked for a large crown corporation where she served as the Manager, Learning & Development. Her most recent position took her to Alberta, where she held a Senior HR Advisor role within a municipal government organization.
Based out of Toronto, Su-Yan is currently managing her own HR consulting firm (NAYUS Consulting Group) where she is working with small business owners in the Caribbean, assisting them with their human resources and talent management needs.
Su-Yan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Education (specializing in Adult Education) from Brock University, a Master’s in Human Resources Management from York University. In addition, she is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL), a Certified Training & Development Professional (CTDP) and is currently pursuing becoming a Certified Executive Coach.
Darrell Lim is a passionate, engaging and resonant coach, business leader, and university instructor. With over 15 years of leadership experience, he shares his mission to grow leaders and organizations, with individuals, teams and large audiences. He has gained a reputation as an expert in the areas of change leadership, systems & process improvement
and strategic human resources.
Darrell has a Master’s degree in Leadership & Management, is a published author on the topic of leadership development and has received coach training at the respected Coaches Training Institute (accredited by the International Coaches Federation). Darrell is a certified practitioner of the renown Birkman Advanced Behavioural Assessment and coached leaders from Telus, BC Hydro, Provincial Health Services Authority, Vancouver Coastal Health and Capilano University; he has also led leadership development seminars internationally.
Heidi Bachert-Burke brings more than twenty years of experience and progressive knowledge of Human Resources Management and Administration to Ashton College.
Heidi has worked at a senior management level for large, public sector organizations managing the full spectrum of Human Resources and Administrative activities in domestic and international locations, providing training and workplace facilitation, and coaching and mentoring direct reports for success. She has functioned as the team lead and change agent on a number of HR, employee and labour relations projects, partnered with government and business partners to develop and implement new diversity initiatives and action plans, and has participated in the development and launch of various administrative strategies and new HRIS systems to improve organizational capacity and capability.
Heidi recently moved from Ontario to British Columbia. Before moving she worked as a College Instructor teaching and developing material for a Liberal Arts course in Interpersonal Communications. She holds a Master of Arts degree. Heidi is passionate about teaching and mentoring and is excited to be part of the Ashton College faculty.
Michelle Gibbons is a seasoned HR professional with more than twenty-five years of senior-level Human Resources Management experience in professional services and private sector companies. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Human Resources Management from Ryerson University and a Master of Arts specializing in Learning and Technology from Royal Roads University. She is soon-to-be professionally certified as a Corporate Coach through the Worldwide Association of Business Coaches. Michelle is passionate about learning and development and successfully leverages her real world experience in all learning environments.
Michelle currently works for PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) in a Senior HR role specializing in performance management and employee coaching. In addition Michelle teaches online at the college level in the Human Resources Management diploma program. Michelle is excited to be part of the Ashton College faculty teaching in the Diploma in Human Resources Management program.
Amber Cooper brings over fifteen years of progressive human resources (HR) experience to Ashton College. Amber has held positions in both private and public sector in a HR Manager capacity, most recently holding the position of Manager, HR Client Services with a Crown corporation.
Amber holds Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from St Francis Xavier University, a diploma in HR Management from Seneca College and a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management from York University. Amber is based out of Vancouver, and joins Ashton College to teach in the Diploma in Human Resources Management Program.
Jabeen Boga is an experienced human resources professional with close to ten years of experience across a wide variety of Human Resources functions. This includes possessing a Certified Human Resources Designation with responsibility over offices that span across the Pacific region. Jabeen earned her undergraduate degree from Simon Fraser University obtaining Dean’s Honor Roll Standing.
Jabeen has worked for some large organizations, including KPMG and TD Bank, and is currently employed at a large engineering firm. She is passionate about the field of human resources and sharing her knowledge through mentoring and teaching.
Jabeen is part of the Ashton College faculty instructing the Diploma in Human Resources Management program. As a recipient of HRD Canada’s 2015 Rising Star Award, she is excited to share her experience and passion towards the field of Human Resources with you!
With over eight years of work experience in human resources, a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and a Certificate in Adult Education, Sarah is dedicated and passionate about sharing her knowledge of human resources and business with others. She is currently completing her Masters degree in Leadership Studies and has a specific interest in leader effectiveness and achieving corporate goals. Sarah has experience in public, private and not-for-profit organizations and has led initiatives in leadership development, training, organizational development, performance development, recruitment, and policy.
Currently, she works as an internal consultant in a large organization leading special projects in talent strategy and managing a comprehensive leadership development program.
Amr Shokry is a global Human Resources (HR) leader with 20 years of senior leadership experience in Canada, USA and Europe. He has worked for several Fortune 500 companies, including Eli Lilly, Novartis, and 3M. In addition to his work history, Amr has presented at major European HR conferences and taught at the undergraduate level at the University of Indianapolis. Holding a Masters in Strategic HR Management from the University of Durham (England), as well as the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, Amr is passionate about teaching and mentoring.
Amr joins the Ashton College faculty to teach the Diploma in Human Resources Management program.
Yanny Yeung is a seasoned human resources (HR) professional with over 8 years of experience in an HR generalist capacity, which includes recruitment and selection, benefits, employee relations, and HRIS systems. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Diploma in Adult Education from the University of British Columbia. She is also a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) and a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP).
Yanny is passionate about teaching and mentoring. She has taught various courses at the local School District for over five years and has been a tutor for over seven years. Yanny teaches in the Diploma in Human Resources Management Program at Ashton College.
A human resources professional with decades of experience behind her in a wide variety of positions, Marcelle Sprecher earned her Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation in 1993, and held her Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation from 1994 to 2012. After working for some of B.C.’s largest organizations, such as the University of British Columbia, publically-traded William M. Mercer Ltd., and Timberwest Forest Corp., Marcelle ventured into entrepreneurism and for ten years successfully contracted her services out to a variety of firms to manage their human resources and management projects.
Marcelle has been facilitating several of Ashton’s CEBS courses since 2004, and is now instructing the college’s online Diploma in Human Resource Management program.
