Certified Health Insurance Specialist (CHS)

The Certified Health Insurance Specialist (CHS) program at Ashton College is the perfect way to achieve the CHS designation. Ashton’s CHS program is delivered by expert instructors who are experienced professionals, and the program is accredited by Advocis, the Financial Advisors Association of Canada.

The Certified Health Insurance Specialist (CHS) designation allows designates to take advantage of a growing market demand for informed living benefits advice. Certified Health Insurance Specialists are professional financial advisers who specialize in living benefits, including income replacement and risk management solutions for individuals, business owners and professionals. The CHS is the only designation in Canada that denotes specialized knowledge in all areas of living benefits and is the premier credential in the health insurance industry.

Program Structure

Each CHS course consists of three 6-hour sessions. Sessions take place Saturday, Sunday and the the following Saturday. Each session is from 9.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m. and held at our Vancouver campus. Each course includes 18 hours of instruction.

Curriculum

The CHS program consists of three courses: CHS 303, CHS 504 and one Certified Financial Planner (CFP) elective course. Students must complete CHS 303, CHS 504 and their chosen elective to receive the Certified Health Insurance Specialist designation from Advocis.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites to take the CHS at Ashton College.

Evaluation

Assessment for the CHS is based on four online modular tests (40%) and one online final exam (60%). A passing grade of 60% of higher is required.

 

Certification

Upon completion of CHS 504, CHS 303 and the one of the three elective courses, the Certified Health Insurance Specialist Designation will be awarded by Advocis.

CHS 504 Critical Illness, Long-Term Care and Group Benefits

This course will discuss critical illness and long-term care insurance, including marketing, selling, product design, pricing, underwriting and claims. It offers comprehensive coverage of the following topics:
