Google ClassroomGoogle Classroom is a blended learning platform for schools that aims to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in an entirely electronic format. It was introduced as a feature of Google Apps for Education following its public release on August 12, 2014.

Google Classroom is a tool in Google Apps that enables instructors to create and organize assignments quickly, provide feedback efficiently, and easily communicate with their classes.

With Classroom, instructors are able to:

  • Create and collect assignments: Classroom weaves together Google Docs, Drive and Gmail to help teachers create and collect assignments paperlessly. They can quickly see who has or hasn't completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback to individual students.
  • Improve class communications: Teachers can make announcements, ask questions and comment with students in real time’improving communication inside and outside of class.
  • Stay organized: Classroom automatically creates Drive folders for each assignment and for each student. Students can easily see what’s due on their Assignments page.

Google Classroom ties many of Google's products together to help educational institutions transition to a paperless education system.

Other Benefits of Google Classroom

  • Google Classroom does not show any advertisements in its interface for students, faculty, and teachers
  • Google Classroom is free for educational institutions
  • Google Classroom apps are available for iOS and Android devices
  • Google Classroom allows sharing from other apps: students can also easily attach images, PDFs and web pages from other apps to their assignments
